All aboard! Tweetsie Railroad NC is a family theme park located between Boone and Blowing Rock on Hwy 321, Blowing Rock Road, and is just one of numerous Western North Carolina attractions. After opening in 1957, the park became a huge success and continues to take children and visitors on a three mile, looped, train ride, however over the years the park has evolved into a gigantic, theme park attraction complete with shows and characters, a chair lift, plenty of fun rides for all ages, and delicious food.

The train that typically takes riders through the Blue Ridge Mountains is an authentic steam locomotive, built in 1917, named #12. This narrow gauge 4-6-0 coal fired train hauled passengers on the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET-WNC), from Johnson City Tennessee

to our area in Boone North Carolina. The train became known as “Tweetsie” as its whistle made the familiar “tweet tweet” sound each round trip.

In addition to Tweetsie’s fun train ride which takes you through the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, Tweetsie also has various other rides, some for small children, and others for the whole family. Most of Tweetsie’s wild west charm comes from its many performers and park characters that are featured in shows and other theatre performances. Meet the Sheriff in town or head on over to the corral and meet a few gunslingers. Of course, no western theme park would be complete without their own saloon showgirls, and Tweetsie’s Cowboy Canteen is the venue for Tweetsie’s famous can-can girls.

Tweetsie Railroad NC is open from the first weekend in May to the last weekend in October. The park is open only the weekends during the beginning of the season in the spring and fall, and daily during the summer months. In addition to the regular train season, the park is open Friday and Saturday nights in October for its annual Ghost Train Halloween festival event.
