The town of Blowing Rock is home to many

The Blowing Rock. The Blowing Rock is a rocky
outcropping that juts out over the John’s River
Gorge in Blowing Rock North Carolina and a place
with its own ancient legend.
 The attraction and area takes its name from the
strange, prevailing winds that blow through the
gorge towards the town of Blowing Rock. Just at
the rocky outcropping, the winds typically blow
vertical and are quite strong, hence the name of
the attraction and town. The view from the rock,
out over the gorge and areas of Caldwell County

Visitors to Blowing Rock can enjoy the
views, browse the gift shop, and read
the ancient Indian legend that tells of
a young Cherokee princess who wished to
marry her lover against the Chief’s wishes. Legend tells
that the young Cherokee brave leapt over the
rock into the wilderness below, just as a gust
of wind came up through the gorge and blew him
in the air, back atop the rock, to his young
Indian bride.
