Sugar Mountain is a small village located in
Avery County,
North Carolina. Sugar Mountain is
one of the top vacation spots in the area
because it is home to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort,
NC’s largest ski area.
With a year round population of a little over
two hundred people, Sugar Mountain enjoys seeing
visitors from all over, that cause the
population to swell into the thousands during
the winter ski season and summer season. The
great panoramic views and ski-on access of Sugar
Mountain NC make it an ideal location for a
second NC mountain home or vacation home.
The weather on Sugar Mountain NC creates perfect
examples of the four seasons. Summer in the
North Carolina Mountains is ideal. Visitors come
from all around to escape from the heat and cool
off on the mountain. Daytime temperatures in
June, July and August are comfortably warm in
the mid 70s and night temperatures still stay in
the mid 50s. In the fall, the air turns cooler
and the
leaves change to beautiful oranges,
yellows and reds, making the mountains look like
wildfire. During winter, temperatures remain
around freezing and drop to very low digits
making for a perfect ski season. Spring in the
North Carolina Mountains brings beautiful
dogwood, laurel, and rhododendron blooms.
The picturesque scenery and convenient access to
the ski slopes make Sugar Mountain NC the
perfect place to own a vacation home or
condominium. In addition to being located next
to the slopes, Sugar Mountain NC is a quick
drive to Banner Elk and Boone, so you can enjoy
all the high country has to offer. For those few
residents that live in the area permanently, the
economy is excellent, and the schools are
nationally award-winning schools. Start planning
your move to the mountains of North Carolina.
