Appalachian Ski Mountain was the first NC Ski
resort to open in 1962 and is located in Blowing
Rock. This smaller resort is a great place for
beginners to learn to snow ski and snowboard,
and a place that families always enjoy. The
mountain features 10 slopes, two snowboarding
terrain parks and an outdoor ice skating arena.
Hawksnest Ski Resort is located atop Seven
Devils mountain and is a local favorite. Nearly
20% of their slope runs are dedicated to
beginners and 33% is cut for advanced
skiers, making it the perfect resort to
visit for those learning and experts.
Hawksnest Ski Resort is unique because
it is one of NC ski resort in the area that lights up at
night and offers night skiing both weekend
nights.
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is the largest North
Carolina ski area with over 115 acres devoted to
skiable terrain. With an elevation of 5,300
feet, Sugar Mountain’s summit has one of the
most breathtaking views in the region and is a
favorite backdrop for any skier. The reason
Sugar Mountain remains a favorite is because it
has a lot of longer slope runs, the longest
being over 1 and a half miles long. With skiing,
snowboarding, ice skating, and even snow tubing
runs, Sugar Mountain offers winter fun for the
whole family!
Ski Beech is located atop Beech Mountain,
and is the highest ski area in the eastern part
of North America, with an elevation of 5,506
feet. The vertical drop is 830 feet long and
offers easy to difficult slopes and even has a
renowned terrain park for snowboarders. This
