All across the High Country you’ll find
excellent schools, wonderful economies, and

only great resources in our Western North
Carolina Mountain region. The healthcare and
medical facilities in Avery and Watauga Counties
provide extensive emergency and medical services
to the area’s residents and visitors and operate
with the highest integrity.
 All three of the hospitals in the High Country
are governed by the greater Appalachian Regional
Healthcare System which oversees the business
management part of the hospitals. Watauga
Medical Center is the hospital in Boone and the
largest medical facility in our High Country
region. This 117 bed medical complex
features state of the art technologies and newly
constructed hospital wings to provide optimal
services and healthcare to those in Boone.
Blowing Rock Hospital is a smaller, private,
nonprofit hospital that serves the Blowing Rock
region with emergency medicine and a variety of
other specialized services. Blowing Rock
Hospital’s adult care programs are renowned in
the region and provide services and support to
adults who require a bit more daytime care than
their loved ones can provide at the time.
 Banner Elk is served by Cannon Memorial
Hospital, which is located in beautiful
Linville. Offering emergency care and a
comprehensive range of services, Cannon Memorial
Hospital operates out of a state of the art,
newly built complex. Construction on the new
hospital was completed in 1999 and offers better
services, and of course, has a great deal more
space.
