visitor favorite and continues to draw record crowds each year. The Mile High Swinging Bridge was created in 1952 and it links two separate peaks of the mountain. Visitors walk across the swinging bridge, which is suspended by cables and looks across the ocean of mountain peaks that you can view from atop Grandfather. In addition to excellent hiking and picnic areas, Grandfather is also home to several endangered animal habitats, and kids of all ages love getting to see the mountain lions, otters, elk and deer species. Also, each year in July, thousands of Scottish people and visitors flock to Grandfather for the annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, a meeting of the Scottish clans for games, fun and plenty of food!

The Linville Caverns are the only limestone caverns in the United States that open to tourists. Visitors can explore the inside of the dark, wet cave and learn more about the interior of the beautiful mountains. The caves are actively forming and visitors are discouraged from touching the stalagmites and stalactites, however the tour takes you through many different regions of the caverns and even over a hidden bridge that sits above the famous bottomless pool in the caverns. Divers and aquatic explorers have tried at various times to reach the bottom of this clear, deep pool of water, and surprisingly, no researcher has ever found the bottom. Dress appropriately when visiting Linville Caverns NC as the actual temperature inside the cave remains around 52 degrees in the summer months.

Linville Falls is a beautiful waterfall located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Linville Gorge Wilderness area. Renowned for its natural beauty, this area is filled with many waterfalls, however Linville Falls is very unique as it has the highest volume of any waterfall found along the Northern Edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
