 Currently the Avery County school system has 6
elementary schools, one middle school, and one
high school that serves the entire county.
Because much of the county is a small, rural
area, the teachers, students and parents within
each school have excellent
rapport with one
another and everyone tries to work together
toward a common goal for success for every
child. Each Avery County school maintains a
rigorous, well-rounded academic curriculum and
older students can choose from various interests
and take vocational and other career interest
classes at Avery High School.
 With such a close-knit community and several
excellent resources in the community including
Appalachian State University and Lees-McRae
College, Avery County school students receive an
excellent education and are well prepared for
life after graduation. Most of Avery County High
School’s students perform well above average on
the SAT’s and most venture on to college
well prepared.
